Watch Tv Vista! Your Thanksgiving free movie list is just two movies long, but what movies! Unlike Halloween (that I offered a list of 100 free scary movies here), Thanksgiving needs a different twist. Neither could well be specific to Thanksgiving, nonetheless they relate to some themes of the holiday. Frankly, I can enjoy these free movies for Thanksgiving or any day from the year.

Big oil company propaganda with a heart! Just the free movie we need for Thanksgiving! This 78-minute semi-documentary from 1948 is one of the most lyrical American films ever produced. In 1994, The Louisiana Story was selected for preservation within the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It is the story of an Cajun boy and his awesome family, living about the bayous in such a way of life that people can barely imagine.
The boy's family rents land to the oil company, which comes in, drills, leaving everything much like it was, clean and unspoiled with the exception that the family includes a little more money. (Yes, it had been funded by the Standard Oil Company.)
The boy spends the majority of his time on his narrow boat (pirogue), floating across the bayous, prime snake and alligator habitat, regarding his pet raccoon. He never wears an existence preserver or shoes... doesn't actually have a cell phone to call in case he gets in danger. There is not much story, simply a celebration (in such stunning white and black photography that you could well wonder what the big deal is approximately color) of the way of life that's no longer around.
All of the actors were amateurs, and for most, this was their only film. As of April 2007, J.C. Boudreaux, who literally boy, was residing in a FEMA trailer regarding his wife of fifty-five years, after Hurricane Rita destroyed their home. (source). He had a chance at fame in the movies, but that he stayed where he was from and apparently knew growing up an appreciation of family (a married relationship of over five decades) reflects why I consider The Louisiana Story an appropriate free movie for just one of our most family-friendly holidays.

A grayscale silent film that ends using a woman being burned alive? Oh, yes, just what every family needs at Thanksgiving. But, I have 3 good reasons for including The Passion of Joan of Arc in this pair of free movies for Thanksgiving.
First, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was ever produced. Second, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was preserved. The director Carl Theodor Dreyer (more) died believing that the last copy ended up destroyed. In a little bit of weirdness that sounds more like a movie compared to the truth, an almost complete print was found in 1981 inside a janitor's closet of a Norwegian mental institution.
Finally, I am grateful that we can watch this magnificent film, on many lists with the greatest films of them all, for free online at Gloria.tv, a Roman Catholic video site.
Maria Falconetti (more), who plays Joan, suffered a psychological breakdown throughout the making of the film, and he or she never made another film. Pauline Kael (more), a notoriously demanding film critic, declared that Falconetti's performance "may are the finest performance ever concerning film."
